Lately I've been picturing what a proper sequel to Toy Fighter would look like. I really enjoy the idea of a 1-on-1 Virtua Fighter clone where every character is the oddball one and design meshes as poorly as a shitty figure collection. Problem is, character design on the original game is pretty bad. I can only imagine what a game with a similar premise would look like if they hired competent artists to design the roster.
The hobby and figure market, including toys for children as opposed to toys for manchildren, is heterogeneous enough to land on plenty of different niches; sort of like how previous Tekken leads decided on unique and novel character design before Harada took over creatively starting in Tekken 4. It's a shame that fighting games did indeed go down the path of no-fun-allowed, tryhard character design faggotry instead of plain fun.

Here's something I've been looking at lately. Megami Tensei 1 & 2 got a combined physical OST in 1991 that came with a booklet containing plenty of interesting stuff. Eirikr uploaded high-quality scans of it over 11 years ago ( archive.ph/eXJex ), and I've searched numerous corners of the internet for translations, but so far I haven't found any, except for one page of Aya Nishitani commentary, translated by Dijeh years ago ( archive.ph/bcwAE ).

So I decided to get some of this done myself, with the help of OCR, machine translation, and a whole lot of proof-reading. It came out pretty sloppy, but I guess it'll have to do for now.
(I would have liked to hire a proper translator who could get this done way better and faster than me, but alas, I'm broke as fuck.)

The first thing that caught my interest was this little interview with Kazunari Suzuki, Kazuma Kaneko, Nobuaki Takerube and Daisuke Narisawa.
The second thing was this page with guest commentaries by Ryusuke Mita (famous mangaka) and Ginichiro Suzuki (famous game designer, and Kazunari's father).

I've still got the raw texts saved (both Japanese and English), so if you want me to dump them into Pastebin or wherever, just let me know.
